About the Church: In 1588 – First Santo Domingo Church built using Nipa and Cogon in Intramuros, Manila. 1603 – First Church gutted by Fire. 1619 – Rebuilt Church toppled by Earthquake. 1862 – Rebuilt Church again toppled by Earthquake. 1863 – Rebuilt Church once again toppled by an Earthquake. Neo-Gothic Church was built after the 1863 Earthquake. This Church was considered the Grandest in Intramuros (A District known for its Grand Churches). December 27,1941 – Santo Domingo Church was bombed by the Japanese

“When the Dominicans Cleared the Rubble of the Santo Domingo Church after it was Bombed by the Japanese, they were able to recover the Image of Our Lady of La Naval, The Icon of Our Lady of the Rosary which is considered to have performed a Miracle in the 17th Century when the Spaniards and Filipinos defeated a vastly superior Dutch Armada.”
