About the Shrine: A Royal Decree Promulgated on November 20,1896 established the Alava as a Parish belonging to the Diocese of Nueva Segovia. In 1918 the town was Renamed to SISON in honor of the late Senator Pedro Ma. Sison. 

In 1928 the Parish was Incorporated into the Diocese of Lingayen-Pangasinan. In commemoration of the 15th Centenary Anniversary of the Council of Ephesus, the Parish was consecrated under the special patronage of “La Reina Del Monte Carmelo”  (Our Lady of Mount Carmel). The Parish formed part of the newly established Diocese of Urdaneta in 1985.

On November 20,1996 or 100 Years after the Establishment of the Parish, the Parish was elevated to its new status as the SHRINE OF OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL

My Thoughts on the Church: The Town of Sison is Often Bypassed when going to Baguio. And a lot do not know that the town boasts of a Beautiful Church with a most special status, a Shrine to Our Lady of Mount Carmel. I hope more People will Visit the Shrine and support it. A Gem among Pangasinan’s many beautiful Churches.

Where is the Shrine Located: The Shrine is located in the Town of Sison, Pangasinan. The Shrine is very easy to locate as the Town is Small. Sison is the last town of Pangasinan going to Baguio.

About the Church: The construction in 1954 of the Shrine of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel began at the same time the Order of Discalced Carmelites was founded in the Archdiocese of Manila. A piece of property along Broadway Street was acquired to start the difficult task of building, not only a religious house for the Carmelite Irish Friars, but also a shrine in honor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. On December 31, 1954, the cornerstone of the church was blessed by the Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, Archbishop Egidio Vagnozzi.

Ten years later, the Shrine of Mary was inaugurated on the feast of Mt. Carmel, with Rufino Cardinal Santos as main celebrant. In 1975, after a lot of improvement and development in religious activities and the active participation of the faithful in the community, the Mt. Carmel Shrine was elevated to a parish church, and Fr. Paul O’Sullivan was appointed parish priest. He was installed by the auxiliary bishop of Manila, the Most Rev. Juan Velasco, O.P. [One of the parish priests of the Mt. Carmel Shrine-Parish became the present Bishop Rolando Tirona of the Prelature of Infanta. On July 6, 2000 the Mt.
