About the Church: San Pedro Bautista Parish is one of the oldest churches built by the Franciscan friars in the province of Quezon. This was the last oldest church built during 18th century. This church was initially made of cogon built in 1879. In the year 1884, Candelaria, Quezon declared as Pueblo y Parroqia and P. Apolinario Villafuerte appointed as the first cura. P. Eriberto Boveda replaced his place as cura and P. Toribio Ilao is the third cura who started a lot of changes in the church. (from the San Pedro Bautista Parish Website)

About the Cathedral: The Cathedral of Lucena or the San Fernando Cathedral was founded on March 1,1881. Built from May 1882 to July 1884. It was destroyed by fire on May 24, 1887 and rebuilt six months later. On November 2010 another fire hit the Cathedral but damage was minimal.

1585 – First built by the Franciscans, 1590 – repaired by Pedro Bautista, 1600 – Changed into brick, 1743 -Church destroyed by an Earthquake, 1856 – Church rebuilt and enlarged, addition of a Transept and a Cupola, 1894 – Roof changed to Galvanized Iron Sheets, 1945 – Church was partially destroyed during the World War II, 1966 – Church was reconstructed by the Philippine Historical Commission, October 18,1988 – the Church was made into a Minor Basilica.
